Liz Foster is Executive Principal of Wavell State High School in Brisbane and National President of the Australian Council for Educational Leaders. Currently coaching school leaders across Queensland, she brings 15 years of leadership experience from prominent schools including Ferny Grove State High School, Stretton State College, Kelvin Grove State College, and MacGregor State High School.
As an Executive Member of the Public Schools Alliance and former Chair of QUT’s Faculty of Education Board, Liz actively engages with corporate sectors through conference presentations and seminars. Her leadership philosophy centers on collaborative vision development and building high-performing team cultures where everyone contributes meaningfully to decision-making.
Liz creates environments that encourage contextual conversations, deep listening, and innovative thinking beyond conventional systems. Her strength lies in connecting with people while fostering strong cultural communities. Recognising people as the greatest lever for improved student outcomes, she champions professional learning investment and builds highly functional teams with collective accountability.
Student leadership remains central to her approach, designing programs that build student capability and confidence. Liz’s educational philosophy emphasises research informed practice and challenging conventions, consistently asking: “How might we prompt people to think beyond the normalised paradigms of teaching and leadership?” This drives her commitment to transforming educational practice and creating learning cultures where everyone influences the broader educational landscape.
